Provincial Safety Inspection

WrenchPatrol operates a Designated Inspection Facility (DIF) on behalf of the Province of British Columbia. Our Authorized Inspectors can conduct an official safety inspection.

Why you might need a Safety Inspection

>> You are bringing a vehicle in from elsewhere and need an Out Of Province Inspection

>> You have been given a Notice to Order from the Police or CVSE because they believed your vehicle might be unsafe or in violation of the motor vehicle act.

What to expect in your Safety Inspection

>> The inspector will require your drivers license and ownership papers

>> The inspector will test drive the vehicle

>> The inspector will put the vehicle up on our hoist and remove the wheels

>> The inspector will take some time to fill in a report that is presented to you and the CVSE

>> If you have locking wheel nuts, you must bring the key

How Long does it take and how much does it cost

>> The inspection usually takes 1 to 1.5 hours. But it could take much longer if there are complications or we need to consult with the CVSE.

>> The inspection costs $105 plus tax, due prior to the start of the inspection.

What if there are issues or repairs needed?

Unless a vehicle is quite new or consistently well maintained, it is common for a vehicle to require some repairs.

We can provide you with an estimate for completing the repairs. You have the option of completing the repairs at any mechanic shop and returning for re-inspection. We will charge at a pro-rated hourly rate of $105 for the time spent to re-inspect your vehicle to confirm the repair is done properly. There is no re-inspection charge if we complete all the repairs at our shop.

Other things you should know

>> The inspection can only be done in our shop. It is not legal to conduct a mobile official safety inspection.

>> The inspection is filed online directly with the government while the inspection is in progress.

>> It is your responsibility to repair and maintain your vehicle to a safe standard as detailed in the Motor Vehicle Act, regardless of the age or value of your vehicle.

>> The inspector MUST report any issues that he sees with your vehicle, even intermittent problems and even if you have not noticed the issue yourself. This is part of his training and his mandate with the province.
